Kids Helping Kids

IPA IS ASKING FOR YOUR HELP - WILL YOU?

In January 2003, the IPA Executive Board approved a schoolwide/statewide charity fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Illinois located in Peoria. Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric hospital in downstate Illinois and is associated with the Children’s Miracle Network.

The purpose of the fundraiser is to have children of IPA member schools raise money for children with serious medical issues. Kids Helping Kids is a wonderful concept. One gift joined with many gifts can make a real difference. More importantly, this program teaches all children the importance of meaningful community service. It’s not about how much money is raised, but how students can help others in need.

Children’s Hospital was presented a check for more than $8200 at the Children’s Hospital Telethon, June 2006.

WHY IS IPA SPONSORING THIS PROJECT?
  • This is another way our association can serve children.
  • This project involves children directly helping children.
  • This project provides positive public relations opportunity for IPA members.
  • This project provides a specific outcome for members to point to with pride.
  • This project expands community recognition for IPA members, their schools, and the state Association.

WHAT IS THE SELECTED PROGRAM?

THE CHILDREN’S FAMILY SUPPORT FUND… Having a loved one in the hospital is both emotionally and financially difficult. Often times a family may have a sick child hospitalized for long extended periods of time. This fund helps defray costs on daily basis. One goal at Children’s Hospital is to try to alleviate the anxiety of both the parents and the child. The Children’s Parent Support Fund provides parents with basic needs while their child is a patient. Vouchers provide meals, transportation, lodging and a toll free telephone number to call 24 hours a day to check on their child.

IPA has:
  • Provided 1700 parents with meal vouchers.
  • Provided 243 parents with transportation assistance.
  • Provided 186 parents with overnight lodging.
  • Provided hundreds of phone calls on the toll-free number.

WHAT IS OUR GOAL?

Our GOAL IS $50,000. Can we count on your school to commit to raising $100?

IPA invites you and your school to become involved in the Children’s Miracle Network by having a fundraiser during the week of September 9-21, 2007. Sources of revenue might include collecting loose change, student council and club activities, and a grade competition. Each school participating will receive recognition from the Children’s Hospital of Illinois and IPA. We suggest informing your superintendent, Board of Education, and the news media of your intent to participate.

If your school is willing to participate in this great cause, please complete the form and return it to:
