IPA Officer Elections

The following individuals listed are seeking IPA officer positions for the upcoming term. Elections will take place electronically in early April. Check out the candidate profiles below and contact the IPA office with any questions.


NAESP Representative

Kim Zinman is the principal at Kilmer Elementary School in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. She is currently in the position of NAESP Representative on the IPA Board of Directors and is hoping for reelection to this position. She stated, “IPA must fight to protect principals and provide them with the tools needed to maintain strong academic achievement, while advocating for equity and fairness in the education of our children. IPA must continue to support principals in their professional development based on their identified needs. As an IPA board member and Illinois’ representative to NAESP, I will continue to listen to the concerns and needs of principals, and to take their messages the state and national level.”


NASSP Coordinator
           

Kenneth Reed is the principal at Mattoon High School in Mattoon, Illinois. He is currently serving as the NASSP Coordinator for the IPA Board of Directors and is up for reelection to this post. He believes, “Helping principals meet the challenges of the “NCLB” Legislation is the major issue that the IPA should be addressing to demonstrate the Association’s belief that the enhancement of principal’s competencies is essential to the continued improvement of education. I look forward to…providing leadership strategies for implementation of the legislation, a system of support for their role in the assessment and accountability components and access to school improvement ideas and practices.”

Secretary

John Bergen is currently the Principal/Superintendent at Hoyleton Grade School in Hoyleton, Illinois. John is running for the position of secretary and is currently the IPA State Director for the Egyptian Region. He believes, “The IPA is the leading educational organization in the state of Illinois and is recognized nationally for what we do for its accomplishments. My job as IPA secretary will be one of accurate record keeping and communication to the other board members to make their decisions clear and of practical importance to principals and districts throughout the state.”

Treasurer

Travis Wyatt is presently the principal of Newton Elementary and Jasper Co. Jr. High School in Newton, Illinois. Travis is currently the IPA Board of Directors Treasurer and is running for reelection. Travis stated about his candidacy, “I intend to serve the Association by encouraging and striving for the growth of the regions and the goals of strategic planning. IPA is an Association that has tremendous professional development, high ethical standards and the ultimate goal of serving the administrators and students of Illinois.”

President-Elect

Dr. Rose Garlasco has been the Assistant Principal at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Illinois for 7 years. She is currently the IPA Board of Directors Secretary and is running for the position of President-Elect. She believes, “Maintaining a strong voice and actively lobbying for issues that impact our jobs and communities must continue to be a priority for the IPA. We must encourage school administrators to become active members in the IPA.”

  

B. Kent Jones is the current principal at Breese Central Community High School in Breese, Illinois. He presently is the IPA Kaskaskia Region State Director, and is running for the position of President-elect. Mr. Jones states, “Success of any organization lies with its membership.  It is a great association today because of your unified efforts.  My desire is to play an integral role in the continued growth and success of the IPA.”
