Regardless of the demographics of a school, all school leaders need to understand their own role in ensuring that their school is an inclusive, affirming environment for all students and staff. Two school leaders of a majority white school in a fairly affluent suburb of Chicago will share their experiences working with students and staff in order to ensure that the school is culturally responsive and supportive of minority students. They will share ideas and programs that they implemented with little to no cost as well as more wide-scale activities. Participants will be empowered to assess their own schools’ current culture and practices, evaluate various staff and student programs, and design their own plans that will foster a school culture that values individual diversity and provides equal opportunities to all students and staff.
