Cycle of Inquiry

Without intentionality, desired growth typically stalls, flounders, or at best, may happen by luck. However, improvement of an organization is too important to leave to chance. The Illinois Principals Association and our partners in the School Leader Collaborative developed this resource to provide a systematic process that can focus the growth of the organization.

The Cycle of Inquiry: Growing Learning Organizations is derived from our leadership framework, the School Leader Paradigm. The School Leader Paradigm accounts for both the leadership dispositions learning leaders must possess and the work learning leaders must do to lead their learning organizations effectively.

Embedded within the framework is the School Leader Paradigm’s cycle of inquiry; while the cycle applies both to the growth process of the leader and of the learning organization, this resource focuses on changes within an organization.

To maximize this resource, learning leaders should read the resource in its entirety before engaging in a cycle. Then as the work is being done, learning leaders and their teams can revisit stages as needed.
